Playing games with your Android tablet or smartphone is definitely really fun to do especially when knowing that today’s mobile games are really awesome when it comes to graphics and gameplay.

But the problem surfaces when you are running out of storage space because you have installed so many games on your device. And the best solution is of course delete your existing games in order to give more space to the storage.

Unfortunately, when games are removed from your Android device, the saved data or progress of your games (like levels, achievements, etc) will also be deleted as well. So if you’re trying to re-download the same game from Google Play Store, all the saved data will be gone and the game will start again from the beginning.

This is why, below I’m going to show you how exactly to backup the ‘saved data’ of Android games. So if you remove and then re-download the same games again from Google Play Store, you can still continue the last progress/levels of your games.

#1. Open your file explorer

First of all, open file explorer that you currently have on your tablet/smartphone. You can use the stock file manager that comes pre-installed on your device. But if the stock file manager is not that good, you can download any 3rd party file explorers like 'X-plore' on Google Play Store.

After downloading it, now open the app. For your information, X-plore works in dual-screen perspective. So you copy any files from the left screen, the files then will be copied on the right screen. Or the other way around.

#2. Choose the game you’d like to backup

Anyway, before even proceeding to the next steps, first you need to pick which game you would like to backup. If you’re not really sure to pick which game to backup, let’s use a game called ‘Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded’ as an example here.

But if you’ve already made the decision regarding which game to backup on your own device, then you can just read the rest of this post to understand how exactly to backup the 'saved data' of your own game.

#3. Open the game

Okay, after downloading the game, now open it. This is really important to do in order to create the default folder in the system which contains the saved data of the game. After opening the game, now you can close it. The next thing to do now is open your file explorer.

#4. Find the saved data of the game

Now find the folder which contains the saved data of ‘Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded’ on your device.

Normally, most of Android devices out there will set the internal storage as the installation base of any apps/games. So every time you’re downloading an app/game from Google Play Store, it will be installed automatically in internal storage.

Okay, if the game is installed in internal storage of your tablet/smartphone, now open the folder the internal storage and go to ‘Android/data/’.

As you can see, inside 'Android/data' there is a new folder named ‘com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry’. Yes - this is the folder which contains the saved data of ‘Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded’.

#5. Copy the folder of saved data and paste it to other folder

If you have found the folder ‘com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry’ inside ‘Android/data’, now copy the folder. After that, go to other folder, say, external storage and paste this folder there to keep the saved data of the game.

How to restore the game’s saved data?

If you want to restore the saved data of ‘Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded’, it’s actually really easy to do that.

I assume that at some point, you finally decide to remove this game. However, if you want to play it again in the future, you can then download the game from Google Play Store.

After downloading the game, now open and close it. The system of your device will automatically create the default saved data folder of this game.

Next, COPY the previous saved data folder which you have copied earlier in external storage (‘com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry’) and paste it inside the folder ‘Android/data’. This will then overwrite the default saved data of the game.

Now if you open the game, as you can see, the saved data will be restored back to the game. Now you can continue the last progress/level from the last time you removed the game from your device.

This method also applies on other Android games by the way, such as: GTA Vice City, GTA 3 and many more. So all you need to do is copy the saved data folder inside ‘Android/data’ and then paste it to microSD card slot or flashdisk.

How to backup the actual game’s data (OBB)?

Besides creating the backup of saved data, you can also backup the game’s data itself. Anyway, game’s DATA is different with game’s SAVED DATA.

* So the game’s DATA contains the data of the game itself. So it relatively be huge in size given that it contains the animations, graphics, levels, storyline and everything inside the game.

* On the other hand, game’s SAVED DATA only contains the saved data like the progress, levels, profiles, etc. So it's gonna be small in size.

If you want to backup the game’s DATA, for example the game’s data of ‘Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded’, first of all open your file explorer > go to ‘Android/OBB’ > copy the folder named ‘main.334.com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry.obb’ > and then paste it to your microSD card.

After copying the game’s data (OBB), you’ll also need to copy the APK DATA of this game because this APK data will be used later in installation process. Without it, you CANNOT install the game.

To do that, now using ‘X-plore’ (which you can download for free on Google Play Store), open the section ‘App Manager’. It then will open up the list of apps/games that you have installed on your device.

Now scroll down and find the file named ‘LSLR’ (stands for ‘Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded’) > long-press that file and select ‘Copy’ in the prompted options. By doing so, the APK file of the game will be copied on your microSD card or flashdisk with the name ‘com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry.APK’ .

How to install the game?

If by any chance you remove the game from your device, you can re-install it again manually along with its saved data.

#1. To do that, first copy the folder ‘main.334.com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry.obb’ (which you have copied earlier in microSD card) and paste it into the ‘Android/OBB’ folder (internal storage).

#2. Copy the APK file named ‘com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry.apk’ and paste it in your internal storage. After that, open this APK file to install the game.

#3. Now open the game and close it after a few seconds.

#4. Copy the saved data folder which you’ve copied earlier (com.replay.LeisureSuitLarry) and paste it inside the folder ‘Android/data’ in your internal storage.

#5. Congratulations! Now you can open the game and continue it from your last progress/level.

Conclusion

Well, there you have it guys, my guide for you if you want to know how to backup the saved data of Android games manually. So if you accidentally remove this game in the future, you can still restore its saved data and continue your last progress/level in the game.

Hopefully this method works perfectly on your device. But bear in mind that this probably only works on particular games, like GTA Vice City, GTA 3, GTA San Andreas and some other more.

Anyway, there's actually another way to backup Android games/apps along with their saved data by using an app called ‘Titanium Backup’. But your Android tablet/smartphone must be rooted first in order for this app to work on your device.
