How to download GTA games for free (Grand Theft Auto series) on Android device?

For more than a decade, Grand Theft Auto series has been one of the most popular video games on consoles or PC.

Starting from the very first GTA game on PS 1 that is still using top-down overview perspective and 2D graphics, then continued with the next titles in GTA series that start using 3D graphics and third person perspective until now.

The great news is, all the Grand Theft Auto games now can be enjoyed at the fullest on tablets and smartphones. From GTA III, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, GTA Liberty City Stories and even GTA Chinatown Wars all can be found today either on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Well, if you are a huge fan of GTA series and you also happen to own a well-spec’d tablet or smartphone right now, below I’m going to show you how to play GTA games for free on your device.


As many of you know, all GTA games use 3D graphics and gameplay with huge maps all over the place with many objects like cars, buildings, people, weather, etc. And the 3D graphics and visual effects in GTA games are really sophisticated and advanced.

This is why, if you want to play any GTA games on your device, your tablet must be adequate enough when it comes to performance and graphical power. And this has something to do with the CPU, GPU and RAM of your tablet.

There are many variables that must be taken into account if you want to play GTA games on your device, like GPU, CPU, RAM and also the Android UI.

But if you currently own the latest gen tablet or smartphone (released in 2015), then I believe your device is more than capable to play all GTA games because most of Android devices today are equipped with the latest-gen GPUs. And most of them also come with 2GB of RAM on board.

However, if you happen to have an older-gen device with old-gen CPU and GPU (Snapdragon 600 processor, Adreno 305 GPU, Tegra 3 processor, Mali-400 GPU, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, etc), then your tablet is only adequate to play the older-gen GTA games, like GTA III or GTA Chinatown Wars.


Okay, if you’re already sure that your tablet is adequate enough to play any GTA games, then the next thing to do now is go find the OBB and APK files of GTA game around the internet.

Anyway, if you haven’t known already, ‘OBB’ file is the GAME DATA of Android game. So in this OBB file, you’ll find all the graphics, animations, storyline, missions, sounds and everything inside the game.

On the other hand, the ‘APK’ file is the installation file of Android game. So in order to be able to install the ‘OBB’ file above, you’re gonna need the APK file to install that game on your tablet.

You can actually find the ‘OBB’ and ‘APK’ files of any GTA games around the web. There are many websites on the net that provide the download links of GTA games for Android device.

But my favorite website to download GTA games is APKmania.com. But you can also get them on some other websites around the net.


Okay, if you have found the website that provides the ‘OBB’ and ‘APK’ files of the GTA game, now download them both (OBB + APK).

Based on my experience, all GTA games are universal apps, which is a great thing because they all can work on almost all Android devices with different GPUs.


After you finish downloading the OBB and APK files of the GTA game, now transfer them both on your tablet.


The next thing to do is move/cut the ‘OBB’ folder of GTA game and paste it inside the folder ‘Android/OBB’ on internal/external storage (depends on the DEFAULT storage of your device when installing apps/games).


After moving the ‘OBB’ file, now open the APK file which you have transferred earlier on your tablet. You’re about to install this game. It usually only takes around a few seconds for the installation process to complete.


If the game is finished being installed, now open it. But I suggest you to enable the internet connection of your device in order to verify the game.


When you open the GTA game, you can start playing it right away. But you can also configure the graphics setting first (Setting > display) in order to improve the experience of playing this Grand Theft Auto game.
