Asus Transformer TF701T vs Nokia Lumia 2520 - Specs Comparison
i guys, welcome back to this site!

Just a while ago, i’ve already showed you my comparison review of 2 great productivity tablet. The first one is running on Android, while the other one is powered by Microsoft’s Windows RT platform. And they are Google Nexus 9 and of course, Nokia Lumia 2520.

(Asus Transformer TF701T vs Nokia Lumia 2520 - Specs Comparison)

Despite being 2 entire different category tablets – in terms of platform -, these 2 devices are great equally, even as gaming devices.

However, of course, given that Android OS is really rich in app/game catalog, compared to Windows RT, then this Google-branded tablet came out as the winner in that review.

Today, i want to keep the momentum going by giving you more of my comparison review. But this time, i’m still really interested to bring Nokia Lumia 2520 into the ring to compete against other tablet.

The rival in this review is still from Android camp. But unlike the tablet in my previous review – which was Google Nexus 9 -, right now i want to put Asus Transformer TF701T side-by-side against that Nokia’s tablet.

Asus Transformer TF701T vs Nokia Lumia 2520 benchmarks and gaming performance

Well, if you’re interested to find out more about my comparison between these Asus and Nokia tablets, including my review of their gaming experience and performance, then here you go, my comparison review between Asus Transformer TF701T and Nokia Lumia 2520.

Introduction

Compared to Google Nexus 9, i think the comparison between Asus Transformer TF701T and Nokia Lumia 2520 is more relevant.

It’s because unlike Google Nexus 9, this Asus and Nokia tablets are more serious as productivity tablets than Google’s Nexus device, which is more on media-consumption side, although it ships with keyboard case folio.

And that’s shown perfectly by the software – UI and features – that each of these devices comes with.

Asus Transformer TF701T is using Asus in-house customized UI that has been well-optimized especially to make this device more prominent as a productivity-centric device, instead of a media-consumption tablet.

So despite using the same Android OS along with its standard features and design layout, of course there’s a lot of productivity-related features and tasks that Asus crams inside this software.

The same applies to Nokia’s tablet. You already know that Windows RT is the tablet-dedicated OS – or lighter version - of the full-fledged Windows 8 Pro OS.

So there is a lot of features and functionality of the Pro version that still remain on the Windows RT – like for example the Office software, the Metro Live Tile UI and many more.

So there’s no doubt that this Nokia’s tablet is more prominent as a productivity tablet.

However, besides great as productivity tablets, both Asus Transformer TF701T and Nokia Lumia 2520 can also be powerful for playing games.

And that’s thanks to the high-grade powerful hardware specs found inside these 2 devices.

Asus Transformer TF701T has its quad-core Tegra 4 and 72-core GPU, while Nokia Lumia 2520 also looks impressive with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 and Adreno 330. And these 2 hardware packages are currently the top-end flagship quality specs in today’s standards.

But the questions remain. With all of the beefy specs and impressive gaming performance found on both devices,

Which one between Asus Transformer TF701T and Nokia Lumia 2520 that has what it takes to be the best gaming tablet in this comparison review?

Which one that is a so much better tablet in the whole aspect?

Is it worth it to buy any of these tablets, especially for playing heavy 3D games?

Well, hopefully we’re gonna find out about the answers of these questions at the end of this review. So be sure to read the rest of this review!

Design

The entire design of Asus Transformer TF701T is not a huge departure especially compared to the other Asus tablet under the Transformer series.

So the rear-cover is dominated by brushed metal aluminum material all over the side, the bezels look thick, the corners are rectangular and there’s also the dedicated QWERTY keyboard dock shipping with the device.

So if you’re already familiar with other Asus Transformer devices, then you will not be surprised with the design of this tablet.

The same applies to Nokia Lumia 2520. So just like the Lumia smartphones made by Nokia, the entire look of this tablet is actually not very different than Nokia’s usual smartphones.

So the corners are not fully rounded or less rectangular, the rear-case is dominated with matte finish all over the place and there’s also this dedicated keyboard case made by Nokia specifically for this tablet.

As productivity-centric devices, of course both Asus Transformer TF701T and Nokia Lumia 2520 must be well prepared especially on the sector of hardware specs.

That’s what exactly happens on these 2 devices.

They are powerful tablets filled with high-grade specs that are still considered as flagship quality specs even in today’s standards.

Asus Transformer TF701T is equipped with a 10.1-inch display sporting the 2.5K resolution (2560x1600 pixels), a quad-core Tegra 4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 72-core GeForce ULP GPU, 5MP rear-facing camera, 1.2MP front-facing shooter, microSD card slot for up to 64GB, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, a huge 31Wh battery (or equal to around 8000mAh battery) and some other standard features like GPS, Java, Bluetooth, USB and many more.

Meanwhile, Nokia Lumia 2520 also looks really promising with its hardware specs. It has a 10.1-inch display with full HD 1920x1200 pixel resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM, a 6.7MP rear-facing camera, 2MP front-facing camera, Windows RT, a huge 8120mAh battery and some other standard features like NFC, GPS and many more.

Not to mention, there’s also 4G LTE connectivity found on this device.

    Screen

When it comes to sharpness, Nokia’s tablet definitely must be willing to let Asus Transformer TF701T take the crown here in this comparison review because its full HD display is just not on par with the 2.5K display found on Asus Transformer TF701T.

With 2560x1600 pixel resolution crammed into a 10.1inch display, of course the display of this Asus tablet looks more gorgeous and much even sharper compared to the full HD 1920x1200 pixel display found on Nokia Lumia 2520.

But even so, having the full HD resolution on a 10.1-inch display actually is still good enough for most of users. It still looks insanely sharp and gorgeous overall.

But of course, when pitted side-by-side against Asus Transformer TF701T, then we can see the huge difference especially in sharpness on both of these devices, with Asus device being the best one.

    User Interface

Windows RT OS has been known as the mobile or tablet version for the full-fledged Windows 8 Pro OS.

So there’s a lot of core features and elements of the “Pro” version that still remain on Windows RT, especially the pre-loaded apps and customizations.

So if you’re looking for a tablet with a more serious productivity software, then Nokia Lumia 2520 can be a great option for you, especially compared to Asus Transformer TF701T.

However, it doesn’t mean that the productivity-related features and elements on the Android OS of Asus Transformer TF701T are not as good as the Windows RT platform of Nokia Lumia 2520.

In fact, for doing most of productivity stuff that you usually do on laptop or PC, this tablet is still more than capable to accommodate your needs for a productivity platform.

And thanks to its great keyboard dock that ships with the device, this Asus tablet can be a great companion device for you – or even replacement for you netbook – to do some productivity stuff at your office.

As far as the gaming performance is concerned, i think it’s quite obvious that both Asus Transformer TF701T and Nokia Lumia 2520 are really well prepared for that matter.

With Tegra 4 processor along with 72-core GPU found inside Asus Transformer TF701T, you can literally play any Android games that you see today on the market.

In fact, even the latest and most graphics intense games like Modern Combat 5, Asphalt 8: Airborne or even GTA San Andreas, all can be executed perfectly without any lag no this Asus device.

The same applies on Nokia Lumia 2520.

Despite its lacking of app/game catalog, the hardware package of this tablet – from Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 GPU – is definitely more than capable to handle any Windows RT games on Windows MarketPlace.

And just like Asus Transformer TF701T, this Nokia’s device also has all the power to play even the heaviest games like GTA San Andreas.

However, there’s one downside found on Nokia Lumia 2520, but tackled on Asus Transformer TF701T. And that is app/game catalog.

So ‘thanks’ to its Windows RT – which is still playing catch up with Android and iOS -, there are many popular games on Android and iOS that are still not available on the Windows RT (maybe most of your favorite games as well).

So if you decide to buy this Nokia tablet, you must also accept the fact that most of your favorite games on Android and iOS will not be available on this Nokia Lumia 2520, forcing you to find the alternatives that are not as good as the original versions.

So this is why, in this comparison review, i have no doubt to say that Asus Transformer TF701T is a much better gaming tablet than Nokia Lumia 2520.

Not just in gaming performance, but also in gaming experience as a whole.

    Cameras

When it comes to camera, Nokia Lumia 2520 is probably more superior than Asus Transformer TF701T simply because it has Carl Zeiss optics on it.

However, that’s actually not the only thing that makes the cameras of Nokia Lumia 2520 capable to take much better pictures than the ones found on Asus Transformer TF701T.

The other reason is, Nokia has been known for its camera developments along with its technology for the past few years – especially on its PureView technology.

So between these 2 devices, i believe Nokia’s tablet is more ideal for taking photos and recording videos. Anyway, Nokia Lumia 2520 comes with 6.7MP camera on the back and 2MP shooter on the front.

But even so, the 5MP camera and 1.2MP shooter on the front-side of Asus Transformer TF701T are still reliable to take great quality photos.

Besides Nokia, Asus actually has also been working hard to improve the camera of its devices. In fact, this manufacture also develops the technology on the cameras of its devices called 'PixelMaster'.

So just like Nokia Lumia 2520, i think Asus Transformer TF701T can also be a great companion for you especially if you love taking photos or recording videos in your spare time.

    Battery Life

The battery capacity of each tablet in this review can be considered as powerful equally.

Nokia Lumia 2520 is equipped with a huge 8120mAh battery, while Asus Transformer TF701T is also looking good with its huge 31Wh battery (or equal to around 8e00mAh battery, with the assumption of 10Wh is around 2700mAh, if i’m not mistaken).

So with a huge battery found inside of these tablets, of course you can totally expect to see any of these devices to survive in a full solid day, even in heavy use.

However, if you are a power user (as usual) and you will use any of these tablets to do some heavy intense tasks without stopping or resting the screen at all – like for watching HD movies in marathon or playing games in the row -, then their battery life would drop drastically to probably just around 5 to 7 hours.

But of course, my prediction of this battery life is not precise, depending on some certain factors – like screen brightness, user’s use cycle, the existing apps that are running in the background, the use of live wallpaper and many more.

So if you want to keep using any of these tablets in full solid day without needing to recharge twice a day, then you must do some optimization in the setting, in order to make it more efficient with the use of memory and battery.

    My Personal Opinions

So my final conclusion of this comparison review is, as productivity tablets, i think both devices are really great equally.

I mean, both of them have their strengths and weaknesses against each other.

Nokia Lumia 2520 may have a more serious productivity platform on its Windows RT, however, the lack of app/game catalog for Windows RT really makes Asus Transformer TF701T a better offering than Nokia’s tablet.

Besides, Asus Transformer TF701T is also really powerful in the whole aspect, especially in spec sheet.

It comes with a powerful quad-core Tegra 4 processor along with 72-core GPU (which ensures its great gaming performance), it has sharper looking 2.5K display than Nokia’s tablet (full HD), it has good quality cameras, huge battery capacity, solid build quality and much better more premium design.

Not to mention, its platform – Android – has a huge support from almost all game/app developers, which means all of your favorite apps and games can be found on this device.

And thanks to its Tegra 4 processor, you can literally throw any Android games on this device and it will execute them all without any problem whatsoever, even in full highest graphics.

But even so, there are still some great things to appreciate from Nokia Lumia 2520. The most prominent one is its cameras – especially the rear one –, which comes with Carl Zeiss optics.

And this means, the photo and video quality taken with this device are guaranteed great, especially if you’re into photography.

Not to mention, the gaming performance of this Nokia’s tablet is also not too shabby at all. Thanks to its Snapdragon 800 processor, Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM, you are also able to play almost all the latest and the most graphics intense games in town.

But the problem is, of course, there are many popular games on Android and iOS – including apps – that are still not available on the Windows RT of Nokia Lumia 2520.

So if you decide to buy this Nokia’s tablet, you must also accept the fact that most of your favorite apps/games that you’ve come to love on Android and iOS, will not be available on this device, which can be quite annoying over the time.

So at the end of the day, the final decision to buy any of these tablets will totally come down to your personal preference and needs.

I mean, if you’re looking for a powerful productivity tablet with Windows RT platform, then Nokia Lumia 2520 can be a good option for you (of course, if you’re willing to accept its lack of app/game catalog).

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for an Android-powered productivity device that has powerful gaming performance, super high-resolution 2.5K display, QWERTY keyboard dock, good quality camera, great battery life, full-featured Android UI, solid build quality, premium looking design and huge rich game/app catalog, then Asus Transformer TF701T is definitely your best shot here.
