Asus Transformer Pad TF701T
If there is an Android tablet that is great for playing games, then Asus Transformer Pad TF701T is definitely that comes to mind. Here's I'm going to explain to you why it can be a decent choice for you if love playing games.
Asus Transformer Pad TF701T

I believe from many of you guys here probably haven’t heard about a tablet called Asus Transformer Pad TF701T.

Well, i don’t blame you, cause me too. Of course I’ve heard several times about Asus Transformer Prime tablets, but this is definitely the first time i heard about Asus Transformer Pad TF701T.

And turns out, this tablet is really impressive, in terms of design, functionality and the most importantly, specs.

It's also a good to see that this tablet is packing a Tegra 4 processor, which is one of my favorite mobile processors this year, besides Snapdragon 800 and 600.

So with that being said, here you go, my personal review of Asus Transformer Pad.

But as usual, before you go straight to read my personal review, let me give you first the first introduction of this tablet.

Introduction

As a keyboard-docked tablet, Asus Transformer Pad TF701T indeed is an amazing great tablet for sure.
  • It has a well-built and premium design a la Asus Transformer series,
  • a great hardware power,
  • an extremely sharp display,
  • useful touch pad on the keyboard,
  • great gaming performance,
  • complete features of a tablet
  • and the most importantly, a strong battery life.
And all of these goodies already make Asus Transformer Pad a definite alternative for even the iPad Air.

Design

Asus Transformer Pad TF701T

From a design standpoint, no doubt that Asus Transformer Pad TF701T has a really well-made solid design all over its body, on the tablet and the keyboard dock.

When the tablet is detached with the keyboard dock, then Asus Transformer Pad may look like some regular normal tablet.

However, when the tablet is merged with the keyboard, this device looks more professional and elegant. What i like from the design of this tablet is its back cover.

As you can see, the back side of this tablet is designed with some line textured finish around the “Asus” logo.

This actually kind of makes the tablet look more like a laptop.

Asus Transformer Pad TF701TMeanwhile, Asus Transformer Pad comes with an official separate keyboard dock (just like on other Asus Transformer tablets out there), which is made specifically for the tablet.

What i really love about it is how Asus designs this keyboard dock to mimic the regular laptop keyboard that you can see today on the market.

This is great because this keyboard dock really makes the tablet look like a PRO laptop, despite using a mobile Android OS.

I believe in the future, Asus has some massive plans to release some Windows tablets with the same kind of design like Asus Transformer tablets.

And i’m really looking forward to see them in the future.

It’s good to see that Asus has made a great decision to go for NVIDIA’s latest mobile processor, Tegra 4, which is one of my favorite mobile processors besides Snapdragon 800.

This means, this tablet will run extremely fast and smoothly for doing any kind of heavy tasks.

Alongside the Tegra 4, the 72-core GeForce and 2GB of RAM can be found inside this machine. With all of these specs, no doubt you can do many things with this tablet. Yeah, that’s right, many things.

As i’ve already mentioned a lot several times in my previous reviews, Tegra 4 is probably one of the best processors out there on the market right now, besides Snapdragon 800, that can make any tablet, not only great for browsing the web, watching movies or reading books, but also, great for playing the most graphically demanding games on the market.

In fact, from all the tasks, i think gaming will definitely get the most benefits from this Tegra 4 chipset.

That’s the reason why i always recommend Tegra 4 tablets like Tegra Note, HP Slate 7 Extreme or HP Slate 8 Pro as great gaming tablets on the market. But we’ll get more on that later on the gaming performance section below.

Besides some powerful hardware, the display of Asus Transformer Pad TF701T also gets the best treatment from the manufacturer.

This tablet comes with a 10.1-inch 2560x1600 pixel display and this display resolution is currently the highest pixel resolution in tablet market to date.

There are only several tablets that have this same exact display quality, like Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1, Google Nexus 10, Kobo 10HD and Kindle Fire 8.9 HDX.

I honestly don’t know about other tablets though, but i promise i’ll let you know once i find out about other tablets that already adopt this display.

So as a productivity tablet, Asus surely takes this tablet seriously for that matter.

It has the best display on the market, one of the best hardware, one of the best designs, one of the best performances, and the most importantly, it certainly has a strong battery life.

Not to mention, Asus Transformer Pad also comes with a 5MP rear-facing camera.

And based on what i’ve seen on the the 5MP camera of a cheap $150 Asus Memo Pad 7 HD, which surprisingly is able to take some decent photos and videos, then i can rest assure that the 5MP camera of Asus Transformer Pad will NOT suck and probably could take so much even better photos and videos than the cheaper $150 tablet Asus Memo Pad 7 HD.

So overall, i’m really really impressed with the whole thing about this tablet.

Asus Transformer Pad in fact sets the standard really really high for other tablets out there to become great productivity tablets on the market.

Screen

Screen is definitely one of the strongest points of Asus Transformer Pad. In fact, this is also the main selling points of this tablet.

It’s really amazing to see that this 10.1-inch tablet already sports the 2560x1600 pixel resolution.

As a result, every thing that you throw on the screen will look insanely sharp and crisp to your naked eyes.

Watching HD movies will be awesome given its sharp full HD display, reading books will be so relaxing and browsing the web will be so much better because text and images will look insanely sharp and clear without zooming in/out, and the most importantly, playing games will be smooth even in the highest graphics setting thanks to its powerful hardware.

So yeah, Asus Transformer Pad TF701T is definitely one of the best tablets out there on the market right now.

It’s just got all the elements of a perfect tablet that even the iPad Air doesn’t have.

User Interface

As a productivity tablet, no doubt that Asus Transformer Pad TF701T comes with some features that make this tablet a great productivity tablet.

So if you intend to use this tablet to support you to do your daily works or even to replace your full-fledged laptop, then you’ll make no mistake because Asus Transformer Pad indeed is a complete productivity tablet.

First of all, this tablet already has that keyboard dock, which really helps a lot if you want to do some typing or computation works just like you always do on your laptop.

Second of all, given that Asus releases this tablet as a productivity tablet, then Asus will definitely provide this tablet with some of important features found on professional laptop, like Office docs, multi-window mode and many more.

However, given that Asus Transformer Pad TF701T is running Android OS, not a full-fledged Windows OS, then you can’t expect this tablet to be able to handle the legacy software from Windows laptop.

But the good thing is, Asus Transformer tablets have been well-known as productivity tablet series from Asus, so i’m sure that Asus really knows what to do and what to provide on this tablet.

Asus Transformer Pad is definitely in good hands especially in terms of features that it comes with.

So despite using Android OS, there will be some major differences in the UI and features that separate this tablet with other Asus regular tablets.

Performance

When it comes to performance, Asus Transformer Pad TF701T really screams.

With the Tegra 4, 2GB of RAM and 72-core GeForce GPU injected inside, this tablet is just really powerful for handling any kind of stuff.

If you love watching movies, Asus Transformer Pad is definitely a great tablet for you.

Thanks to its powerful super specs and insanely sharp Full HD screen, all of you favorite movies will be presented in really stunning display and smooth performance.

Even if you throw full HD movies, this thing flies. You’ll never find any lag whatsoever.

Thanks to its powerful performance, this tablet is also great for playing games, which we’re about to find out after this.
Browsing the web and reading books will also be great if its done with this tablet.

Given its full HD 2560x1600 pixel display, now you don’t ever need to do zoom in/out because text and images look really sharp and clear.

And the fact that this tablet sports a 10.1-inch display also really makes the experience of watching movies, reading books, browsing the web or playing games SO GOOD.

Gaming performance of Asus Transformer Pad TF701T without a doubt is top notch. Thanks to its Tegra 4, 2GB of RAM and 72-core GeForce GPU, this tablet is more than capable to handle any kind of games from Google Play Store.

From simple games like Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja or Temple Run 2, until the most graphically intense games like Dead Trigger 2, Asphalt 8: Airborne, GTA San Andreas or Need for Speed: Most Wanted, all can be run and played in buttery smooth performance and in full graphics.

Not to mention, as a Tegra tablet, Asus Transformer Pad TF701T also has the privilege that other tablets don’t have. And that is the access to the Tegra Zone.

In Tegra Zone, you’ll find plenty of games that are well-optimized for Tegra devices.

So games on Tegra Zone will definitely have more detailed graphics and visual effects that just can’t be found on other regular non-Tegra tablets.

So that’s another huge plus point of having this tablet.

So if you’re looking for a great productivity tablet that is also great for playing games, make no mistake, Asus Transformer Pad TF701T is absolutely a great gaming tablet for you.

It may be expensive, but with all bunch of complete features and elements found on this tablet, it’s just really hard for me to not recommend you this tablet.

Camera

I’m really glad to see that Asus Transformer Pad TF701T also comes with a 5MP rear-facing camera.

For many tablet users out there, the rear-facing camera on this tablet may not be that important given that Asus Transformer Pad is a huge 10.1-inch tablet, which will make you look like a dork if you use the camera of this tablet in front of public.

But still, having a 5MP camera on any tablet should be fully appreciated because you’ll never know that, at some point, you might forget to bring you digital camera or smartphone at your disposal.

And thanks to the 5MP camera on this tablet, you’ll never miss any best moments in your life.

The good thing about the 5MP camera of this tablet is, some of Asus tablets have been known to have some really great quality cameras. For example is Asus Memo Pad 7 HD.

This tablet comes with the same 5MP camera on the back. However, what makes me really impressed a lot is because this cheap $150 tablet surprisingly is able to take some decent shots with its camera.

According to some tech review sites like CNET and PhoneArena, the 5MP camera on this tablet indeed can capture some great photos and videos.

That’s amazing because Asus Memo Pad 7 HD is insanely cheap.

But apparently, Asus has done some amazing job on its camera.

Therefore, if a cheap $150 tablet like Asus Memo Pad 7 HD can have that great quality camera, then it’s not that hard to believe that Asus Transformer Pad will also have the same great quality camera.

In fact, i even believe that the 5MP camera of Asus Transformer Pad can take so much even better photos and videos than the cheaper Asus Memo Pad 7HD.

Battery Life

As a productivity tablet, no doubt that Asus will provide this tablet with much bigger battery capacity than any other Asus tablets.

Asus Transformer Pad comes with 31Wh Li-Po power battery inside. This is considered as really huge for a tablet.

So if you are planning to use this tablet as a netbook replacement, or even a laptop, then you will find this tablet to last in many many hours even for doing some heavy computing tasks, given that it's not running a full-fledged Windows 8 OS, just Android OS.

Asus Transformer Pad TF701T is also perfect as a media-consumption device, thanks to its insanely sharp full HD display, powerful hardware, fast performance, smooth experience and strong battery life.

So if you intend to use this tablet for doing some heavy tasks like watching movies, reading books, browsing the web, listening to music or playing games in mixed usage, you can expect to see this tablet last in one solid day.

However, if you use this tablet for some heavy intense usage like playing games in the row or watching movies in marathon, then the battery of this tablet will probably last around 8 to 10 hours.

But this is considered as great given that this tablet uses full HD display, which will definitely drain the battery pretty much faster than any other 720p display.

User Opinions

So in conclusion, i personally really really love with the whole thing about this tablet.

Asus Transformer Pad is just a perfect tablet for doing any kind of things that regular tablets can’t, even the iPad, or even netbooks.

Watching movies, reading books, browsing the web, listening music, playing games or even doing some heavy computation stuff on this tablet, all can be done so perfectly and smoothly, thanks to its sharp full HD display, powerful hardware, fast performance, strong battery life and the most importantly, its keyboard dock, which will definitely make your life a lot easier.

What i want to highlight from this tablet are its full HD 2560x1600 pixel display, Tegra 4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 72-core GeForce GPU, keyboard dock and its solid premium design.

I really love all of these goodies.

But since i’m a gamer, one thing that is my favorite from this tablet is definitely its hardware specs.

With Tegra 4, 2GB of RAM and 72-core GeForce GPU, Asus Transformer Pad is just an amazing tablet for playing games.

All kind of games that you throw on this tablet will run insanely smooth and the most importantly, in full graphics setting.

So even the most graphically intense games like Asphalt 8: Airborne, Dead Trigger 2 or even GTA San Andreas, can all be played on this tablet in buttery smooth performance and definitely in full graphics setting.

I even believe that this tablet will still be capable to run most of the graphically demanding games that are gonna launch next year, or even the next 2 years.

So if you’re still looking for a great productivity tablet that has official keyboard dock and some monstrous specs, then look no more.

Asus Transformer Pad is definitely the right choice for you. However, if you want to get a full-fledged Windows tablets, then your target must be aimed at Microsoft Surface 2 Pro tablets or other Windows Pro tablets.
