Acer Iconia B1 Series: Quick Review Roundup Hi guys, welcome back to this site!

Earlier, i’ve already showed you a bunch of Acer Iconia tablets shipping with Tegra processor – from Acer Iconia 100 to Acer Iconia 700.

However, not all of these tablets are really good in handling games because they are powered by varied different Tegra chipsets – either Tegra 3 or Tegra 2 processors.

Anyway, besides all of those Tegra tablets from Acer, this manufacturer actually still has a bunch of other good quality tablets which i also believe can be good performers for playing games – if not great.

And this is the reason why today i really want to show you some of Acer tablets under the Acer Iconia B1 series.

Most of the tablets under this series are actually not high-end quality tablets. They are mostly mid-end to even low-end category tablets.

However, despite not being flagship devices from Acer, i still think that some of these tablets still deserve to get some attention from you, especially for those looking for cheap budget tablets but with good performance.

Okay then, without long introduction from me, in this quick summary review, please let me show you guys some of the Acer Iconia B1 tablets that i’ve already reviewed on this site.

Not all of these devices are great for gaming, however, but i think it’s still my obligation to share all of these tablets to you in order to help you pick up the right tablet for you.

Acer Iconia B1-720

Acer Iconia B1-720 is actually the tablet that i really recommend to you especially if you’re looking for a cheap budget tablet with pretty good gaming performance.

Unlike other models under this Acer Iconia B1 series, this B1-720 can be considered as a good performing device given that this tablet is powered by Mali-400 GPU, which proved to be one pretty great GPU, especially around the market in 2012.

This GPU may already be considered as outdated for today’s standards.

However, i’ve still seen a lot of Mali-400-powered tablets still capable to handle even the latest graphics intense games like Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 8: Airborne or Need for Speed Most Wanted, even in smooth buttery performance and in full graphics.

And this is something that i actually didn’t expect from this “outdated” GPU.

Acer Iconia B1-720So when it comes to gaming performance, Acer Iconia B1-720 really performs very well even when handling Asphalt 8: Airborne.

And i’m not so shocked about that because another Mali-400 tablet - Archos GamePad 2, is also capable to run Modern Combat 4 and Asphalt 8 smoothly in full highest graphics.

In the hardware department, it’s really obvious that this tablet is not on par with other 7-inch tablets on the market, especially in today’s standards.

It has low-resolution 600x1024 pixels on its 7-inch display, it only has a VGA rear-facing camera without front-facing camera and it’s powered by a rather small 2955mAh power battery, which probably would still last longer given its low-resolution display and less-power-hungry processor.

Meanwhile, on the hardware sector, it’s powered by a dual-core Mediatek MT8111 processor, accompanied with Mali-400 GPU and 1GB of RAM.

Not to mention, you’ll also get microSD card slot for up to 32GB to support its 16GB of internal storage.

For today’s standards, it’s really obvious that Acer Iconia B1-720 is not “on the same page” with other 7-inch tablets on the market today, even the lowest-end ones.

But if you manage to grab this tablet at really low price, you’ll make no mistake if you buy this tablet. It’s still good for gaming – if not the best – and it’s still neat for enjoying media contents.

Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71

If Acer Iconia Tab B1-720 looks pretty impressive in terms of gaming performance, it’s probably not the same thing that you’re gonna get if you decide to buy its sibling - Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71.

Unlike the B1-720, this tablet is only powered by PowerVR SGX531 GPU, which is not as powerful as Mali-400 found inside Acer Iconia B1-720.

So when it comes to gaming performance, this tablet may not be as powerful as its sibling, especially when handling games like Asphalt 8: Airborne or Modern Combat 4.

Acer Iconia B1-A71In terms of specs, Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71 comes with:
  • a 7-inch display sporting the low-resolution 1024x600 pixels,
  • a dual-core Mediatek MT8317 processor clocked at 1.2GHz,
  • PowerVR SGX531,
  • 1GB of RAM,
  • microSD card for up to 32GB,
  • 16GB of internal storage,
  • VGA rear-facing camera without front-facing camera (just like the one mentioned above by the way),
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, non-removable 2710mAh battery (10Wh)
  • and a bunch of standard features.
The specs of this tablet is actually quite similar with Acer Iconia Tab B1-720.

However, given that Mali-400 GPU is more powerful for gaming, i strongly recommend you to pick up Acer Iconia Tab B1-720 instead of Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71.

Acer Iconia Tab B1-710

Acer Iconia B1-710The last tablet released under this Acer Iconia Tab B1 series is the 710 model. Similar just like the A71 model, this Acer Iconia Tab B1-710 is also powered by PowerVR SGX 531u GPU.

So in terms of gaming performance, these 2 tablets may not be as powerful as the Acer Iconia Tab B1-720 model.

But if you’re not a hardcore tablet gamer, you can probably still buy this tablet for your kids and let them play some casual games with it.

In terms of specs, this tablet is also quite similar with the other 2 siblings – especially with the Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71 model -.

It has the same low-resolution 1024x600 pixels on its 7-inch display, 1GB of RAM, a dual-core Mediatek MT8317T processor, PowerVR SGX531u GPU, microSD card slot for up to 32GB and low-grade rear-facing camera without front-facing snapper.

Meanwhile, in the battery department, this tablet is powered by a smaller 2640mAh battery capacity, promising for up to 3 hours and 30 minutes for multimedia and talk time.

Overall, i think this tablet is just really mediocre at best, especially when it comes to specs.

In fact, i don’t recommend you this tablet especially if you’re looking for a cheap affordable tablet for enjoying media contents or playing games.

But you can always switch to Acer Iconia Tab B1-720 model because this tablet is more powerful in gaming performance, thanks to Mali-400 GPU.

And i’ve actually already seen this tablet perform well even when handling games like Asphalt 8 or Modern Combat 4, which both run smoothly in medium to high graphics setting.

Conclusion

Okay then, that’s all for now about these Acer Iconia Tab B1 tablets.

I’ll probably make some updates in the future if Acer has some other new-gen tablets under this series. But we’ll see.

Meanwhile, if you feel this quick review is helpful and informative to you, don’t forget to share it guys.

I would totally appreciate your contribution here.
