Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Specs
Hi everyone, welcome back to this site!

Around a couple of months ago, i’ve already showed you 4 new tablets from Samsung which i believed would be great for gaming.

(Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Specs)

In fact, it’s really easy for me to recommend you any of these tablets given that these tablets are packing all of the best hardware around the market to date, like Snapdragon 800, Adreno 330, 3GB of RAM, 2.5K display (2560x1500 pixels) and some other high-grade specs.

And these 4 tablets are no other than Samsung new “Pro” tablets, from Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, Tab Pro 10.1, Tab Pro 12.2 and last but not least - Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, which all of them are just powerful compared to rivals, even the iPad Air, in terms of specs.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 benchmarks and gaming performance

However, despite having some powerful hardware, i don’t think all of these 4 tablets will have the same exact great gaming performance.

And that’s clearly because Samsung decides to use 2 different processors (and mobile GPU as well) on the WiFi-only and LTE models of these Samsung Galaxy Pro family, with larger 10.1 and 12.2 WiFi models getting the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa and Mali-T628 GPU, while the rest models receiving the treatment of Snapdragon 800 and Adreno 330 – which are beast for gaming.

Well, today i’m really interested to bring up all of these Samsung Pro tablets in some new reviews for each of them.

But i’ll start with the smallest model - Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 -, which many believe is the best 8-inch Android tablets out there, even the best tablet on 8-inch tablet market.

The good news is, both WiFi and LTE models of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 are packing the same Snapdragon 800 processor.

And that means, these 2 tablet variants will be awesome for gaming.

Well, if you’re interested to know more about this 8.4-inch tablet, then here we go, my personal review of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.

It would mean a lot to me and this community.

Okay then, without further ado, here you go, my personal review of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.

Introduction

If you look at what the original Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 line has to offer, then it’s really obvious that the brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro family is just so much even better in all aspects compared to the predecessors.

I mean, compared to all of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 devices – from the 7-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and not to mention the low-grade 7 Lite models -, then Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro tablets, without a doubt, will blow those predecessors out of the water - in terms of design, performance, gaming capability, display sharpness and quality, camera quality, battery life and pretty much everything.

One of the amazing things found on this GALAXY Tab Pro series is its hardware specs.

Unlike the predecessors that have different level of hardware – according to screen size -, on this GALAXY Tab Pro family, Samsung apparently gives the same priority and treatment to all of the tablets under this tablet series.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Specs

Even from the smallest 8.4-inch of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, Samsung also injects all of the same goodies found inside the larger 10.1-inch and 12.2-inch models – from the same “insanely” sharp 2560x1600 pixel display, the same big fat 2GB of RAM, the same fastest processor (Snapdragon 800 processor), the same powerful mobile GPU (Adreno 330 GPU), the same 8MP rear-facing camera and some other similar powerful specs.

And this is really amazing because, with all of these super powerful specs equipped, then it’s really obvious that all of the entire tablets in GALAXY Tab Pro family will just be great for gaming.

And that’s for sure because either Snapdragon 800 or Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processors are currently considered as beast around the market to date - alongside Apple’s A7 chipset and Tegra 4 processor –, especially for gaming.

But the question remains, with all of the goodies inside this tablet, does Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 have what it takes to be the best-performing gaming tablet around the 8-inch tablet market, compared to iPad mini 2, LG G Pad 8.3 or HP Slate 8 Pro?

Well, we’re about to find out about that in this review.

Design

The design of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is actually really similar with the rest of other Samsung GALAXY Pro tablets.

As a matter of fact, the design of this 8.4-inch tablet also looks similar with Samsung GALAXY Note 3 and Note 10.1 – with those similar fake stitching and faux leather rear-cover and metallic trim around the side.

So this tablet just looks great and elegant just like any other Samsung latest-gen flagship devices.

However, compared to the iPad mini with Retina Display or LG G Pad 8.3, this Samsung’s tablet may not look as premium and elegant as those 2 rivals, especially because this Samsung’s tablet still uses that “plastic” case cover, compared to the rivals that already adopt aluminum material.

But overall, i personally still love the entire design of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. It still looks elegant and professional for an 8-inch tablet.

Just like the other Samsung GALAXY Tab Pro tablets, this 8.4-inch model also shares the similar type of specs with its siblings – from the same 8.4-inch display sporting the insanely sharp 2.5K resolution (2560x1600 pixels), 2GB of RAM, 8MP camera and even the same Snapdragon 800 processor, coupled with Adreno 330 GPU – which is a beast GPU for gaming, alongside PowerVR G6430 GPU on iPad Air or 72-core GeForce ULP GPU on Tegra 4 tablets.

The great thing about this 8.4-inch model is, - compared to the larger 10.1-inch and 12.2-inch models -, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is powered by the same Snapdragon 800 processor and Adreno 330 GPU – either on the WiFi-only or LTE models.

So the performance of these 2 tablets will be relatively similar one to another.

This really contradicts with the WiFi-only and LTE models of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1, Tab Pro 12.2 and Samsung GALAXY Note Pro 12.2, which are using 2 different processors - Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor for the WiFi-only models, while the LTE models are getting the Snapdragon 800 processor.

And this can really impact to the overall performance of each device, with the Snapdragon 800 models having the faster and smoother performance than the ones with Exynos 5 Octa processor.

But even so, all of these Samsung GALAXY Pro tablets are still great and really powerful in terms of specs and performance, especially compared to other tablets across the market to date, even the iPad Air.

So even if pick up the basic smallest 8.4-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, this tablet is still a beast and will blow iPad mini 2 out of the water.

Screen

As mentioned above, just like the rest of other Samsung GALAXY Pro tablets, this Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is also packing the same 2560x1600 pixel display, but in smaller size.

However, this smallest model amazingly has the highest pixel density among other Pro models, even the Note Pro variant – with -359ppi pixel density (on 8.4-inch models), compared to the -299 ppi (on 10.1 models) and lower -249 ppi (on the largest 12.2 models) -.

This is actually not really surprising because the smallest 8.4-inch model is also getting the 2560x1600 pixel display, just like the larger 10.1 and 12.2 models.

And that means, on this smaller Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, Samsung has to cram all of the pixels into a much smaller display.

As a result, the display looks insanely sharp – even sharper than the 10.1 and 12.2 models – and crisp in normal default view.

So everything that you throw on this tablet will definitely look so gorgeous and insanely sharp compared to other 8-inch tablets out there, even the iPad mini 2 with the so called “Retina Display”.

And thanks to the Samsung’s expertise in making gorgeous AMOLED display on many of its GALAXY devices, then the display of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 without a doubt looks great, colorful and gorgeous especially when used for watching full HD movies, reading books/magazines or playing HD games.

Everything just looks insanely sharp and gorgeous on this tablet.

In fact, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 has the best display on the 8-inch tablet market to date. No argue to that.

User Interface and Features

Unlike the original Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 tablets that come pre-installed with TouchWiz UI, on this Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, Samsung has made a complete overhaul to the Android build of this tablet and altered it into a more decent looking UI, called as Magazine UI.

This basically looks similar to what Microsoft did with the latest installment of Windows 8 OS, you know, with all the square and colorful boxes.

So on this Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, you’ll never meet again with the standard Android UI just like you’re already familiar to see on any regular Android tablets out there.

Now Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 doesn’t have that blank homescreen with widgets anymore.

But instead, now you’re getting a more matured and professional looking UI all over the screen.

But basically, this new UI still works similar just like the old Android UI.

It just looks tidier and has more features in it – like multi-window mode, etc.

Overall, i personally really like the Magazine UI on this tablet – along with other GALAXY Pro tablets of course.

It now looks more mature, it now has much richer features, it works just great on this tablet and on top of that, the experience of using this tablet is a 'perfect match' to this tablet’s sharpest display.

However, this also depends on what type of users are you.

If you’re already a big fan of Android stock UI or TouchWiz UI, then you probably will be surprised when using this tablet.

Unfortunately, Samsung doesn’t release the TouchWiz edition of Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.

So if you decide to buy this tablet, you must get used to this Magazine UI.

Performance

When it comes to performance, without a doubt Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is a beast in that department.

Thanks to the set of powerful hardware from Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz processor, coupled with Adreno 330 GPU, not to mention the huge 2GB of RAM, all of the tasks that you deploy on this tablet – even at once – can be executed perfectly without a problem, and the most importantly, in smooth performance.

Even with that highest 2560x1600 pixel screen resolution plus heavy Magazine UI, the overall performance of this tablet will just stay great and fast.

And that’s not surprising because Snapdragon 800, along with that Adreno 330 GPU, are the current beast in today’s standards, alongside Apple A7 (PowerVR G6430 GPU) and Tegra 4 (72-core GeForce ULP GPU).

So in terms of performance, this tablet has no problem at all in this sector.

If there is one best gaming tablet around the 8-inch tablet market, then Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is definitely the one i’m talking about.

This tablet has all the elements of a great great gaming tablet.
  • From the fast processor,
  • powerful GPU,
  • sharpest looking display,
  • smooth performance,
  • great battery life,
  • expandable microSD card slot,
  • ideal 8-inch display for gaming
  • and a full support from game developers specifically for this tablet with well-optimized games (although the physical gaming controller like on Archos GamePad 2 would make this Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 a so much better gaming tablet).

So if you’re still looking for a great 8-inch tablet for playing games, then Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 without a doubt is the one you’re looking for.

With this tablet, your hobby of playing tablet games will be accommodated perfectly because Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is more than capable to handle all of the latest graphically demanding games across the Google Play Store, - like Asphalt 8: Airborne, Modern Combat 4 (and even Modern Combat 5), N.O.V.A 3, Dead Trigger 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted, GTA Vice City and even GTA San Andreas – all in smooth performance and in full graphics.

Camera

If you happen to have a hobby of photography, then you’ll be fully satisfied with what Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 has to offer.

Not only will its 8MP rear-facing camera deliver sharp looking photos/videos that look great on this tablet or your Instagram account, but they’ll also look awesome even on a much larger HD TV in your house.

And that’s not surprising because Samsung GALAXY devices – the flagship ones – mostly have great and sharp quality cameras.

So you can expect the same thing on this 8.4-inch tablet.

The photo and video quality taken with its 8MP camera will be on par – or probably better – with the rivals like iPad mini with Retina Display, LG G Pad 8.3, Sony Xperia Z or any other flagship tablets out there on the market.

Battery Life

When it comes to battery life, without a doubt, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is one of the best in that department.

Thanks to Samsung advanced screen and battery technology on this tablet, it will ensure you that even its insanely sharp 2560x1600 pixel display won’t give too much impact to its overall battery life.

It’s still long lasting and could deliver a decent all-day-long usage.

But this will also come down to which type of users are you.

If you’re just a moderate media-consumption type of users, then you don’t need to worry about its battery life because this tablet could still last in many many hours in one solid day, even in 2 days.

However, if you’re type of power users and you’ll regularly use this tablet for doing some heavy intense tasks without resting the screen at all – like for watching full HD movies in marathon or playing HD games in the row -, then you can expect this tablet to last probably around 8 to 10 hours, which is still considered as great for today’s standards.

My Personal Opinions

So in conclusion, i think it’s really easy for me to recommend you this tablet because Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is just a perfect tablet.

It has all the elements of a great tablet – like a sharp looking display, long lasting battery life, great gaming performance, premium looking design, expandable storage, great camera, and pretty much everything on this tablet is just perfect.

In fact, around the 8-inch tablet market to date, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is no doubt the best tablet out there, even beating iPad mini with Retina Display by miles.

It’s just hard for me to find the downsides of this tablet.

Everything is just perfect. No con.

Everything on this tablet is just pro.

I even believe that if you ask any Android fans out there, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 will be their best recommendation.

So if you’re currently looking for the best 8-inch tablet that has the sharpest looking display and great gaming performance, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is definitely your best shot.
