With more and more new tablets getting released to the market every quarter of the year, you can get any kind of tablet that not only suits with your specific needs, but the most importantly, your budget.
In buying an Android tablet, there are some questions that you should ask to yourself before making the final decision to purchase.
First of all, you need to know why do you need a tablet.
And secondly, you must also know how much money in your pocket right now that you can spend on a single tablet.
Okay then, in the list below, I would like to share to you some of my recommendations of tablets according to the specific needs.
Great Tablets for Playing Games
Right now, if you’re looking for a great gaming tablet at affordable cost, there are some great options that you can choose from, like Google Nexus 7 (2013) or Kindle Fire HDX, which both are using high-end powerful hardware inside.
And the great thing about them is they have insanely cheap price point, around $229 for the 16GB model of both tablets.
Well, that’s just insanely cheap for a great build gaming tablet, right? I mean, with the half price of iPad mini (which is also a great gaming tablet), you can get a solid gaming tablet that is capable to run and play any high-performance games across Google Play Store perfectly and smoothly with no lag whatsoever.
One of the great things about both of these tablets is that the hardware on Google Nexus 7 (2013) and Kindle Fire HDX are so powerful.
Therefore, as a proud owner of Google Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HDX, you’ll be able to play many newest games that will come out next year or even games in 2015 as well.
Well, that’s just insane, right?
I mean, with a really affordable tablet around $229, you can have a really powerful tablet that can handle almost any high-performance games with stunning graphics even console-quality graphics that will launch in the next 2 years.
That’s just so awesome.
The reason why i believe that both Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX can handle almost all 3D games in the next 2 years, even the high-performance ones, is because these 2 tablets have been equipped with some really powerful hardware that currently are the top performers in tablet and smartphone industry.
First of all, let’s check out what’s inside Google Nexus 7, of course the latest edition, not last year’s Nexus 7. Google Nexus 7 (2013) comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
Well, these 2 hardware specs are just insanely powerful and super fast when it comes to performance and graphic processing power.
Snapdragon S4 Pro may not be the flagship chipset from Qualcomm this year because Qualcomm just recently launched its latest chipsets from Snapdragon 400, 600 and 800.
And Snapdragon 800 is the flagship model of these 3 chips.
However, despite using last year’s processor, it doesn’t mean that Snapdragon S4 Pro on Google Nexus 7 will be mediocre.
As a matter of fact, Google and Qualcomm have made an outstanding job working together to really well-optimize that chipset in order to bring the most powerful performance and graphics power of the CPU and GPU to the Nexus 7 without sacrificing the battery life of the tablet.
That’s proved by how Google Nexus 7 can perform really fast and even last all day long without the needs to recharge during the day.
That’s quite an achievement given that this year’s Google Nexus 7 comes with a slightly smaller battery capacity than last year’s Nexus 7.
And what makes it insane is that, Google Nexus 7 comes with an HD 1200x1920 display, which is a top notch for doing things like playing games, watching movies, browsing the web, reading books or magazines and any other entertaining stuff.
Can you imagine that with only less than $200, you can have a really powerful tablet with great gaming capability that could handle almost all games in the next 2 years, all-day super fast performance and the most importantly, great battery life that lasts all day without the needs to recharge during the day.
That’s why i strongly recommend this tablet to you if you’re currently still looking for a great gaming tablet that has great performance, great display, great battery life and great capability to handle many high-performance games smoothly and perfectly.
But if you want to get another great alternative for Google Nexus 7, try Kindle Fire HDX.
What makes this Amazon’s tablet so superior than Google’s tablet is because Kindle Fire HDX comes with much powerful hardware specs than what comes with on Nexus 7.
Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch has been armed with a 7-inch 1200x1920 display with pixel density of 326ppi, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, Adreno 330 and 2GB of RAM.
Compared to Google Nexus 7’s hardware, of course, Kindle Fire HDX is more powerful given that it has Qualcomm’s current flagship chipset, Snapdragon 800, while Google Nexus 7 has Snapdragon S4 Pro.
And the GPU of Kindle Fire HDX is also the one that makes Google’s tablet slightly less powerful.
Adreno 330 GPU is also the current top and the most powerful graphic processor.
That’s the reason why Kindle Fire HDX will be such a powerful device for gaming and can also handle many high-performance games across Google Play Store in buttery smooth performance without any lag whatsoever.
And just like Google Nexus 7, Amazon’s tablet also has the capability to run many high-quality games with console-quality graphics for the next 2 years.
So if you’re looking for an insanely powerful gaming tablet at affordable price tag, then Kindle Fire HDX can be your great choice.
Good Productivity Tablets for Doing Heavy Tasks
When it comes to great tablet for doing productivity works and computing tasks, then the eyes of consumers should definitely be centered to Microsoft’s Surface 2 Pro tablet or other Windows-powered tablets on the market.
The reason to believe that is because these Windows tablets are injected with Microsoft’s latest popular software, Windows 8.1 Pro.
And that’s just over the top of other tablet OSes in the world, beating Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS by far level.
With Windows 8.1 Pro OS, you can do many things on your tablet just like you always do on your laptop or PC, like playing PC games, running PC software, doing your homework with Microsoft Office software and many other things.
And what makes these tablet awesome than other Android tablets or Apple iPads is because you can also use the tablet without the keyboard as a normal tablet when you want to browse the internet or playing touch games, and whenever you want to do some serious works like computing tasks or writing homework, you can just put it back to the keyboard dock.
However, given that those Windows tablets come pre-installed with serious Operating System from Microsoft, then the price of these tablets will obviously skyrocket to the top compared to iOS and Android tablets out there.
But the good thing is, there are many brands of Windows 8.1 tablets from other manufacturers outside Microsoft.
So that means, you will still have many options of Windows-powered tablets that are spreading out around the market, not to mention price tags that are so competitive among each other.
You you can choose any Windows tablet from other brands outside Microsoft, like Sony Vaio, Lenovo Yoga and any other models according to your budget.
And don’t you worry, all of these tablets are running the same OS just like Microsoft’s Surface tablets, so you’ll be able to run all of legacy software from your laptop or PC on your Windows tablet.
Suitable Tablets for Reading Digital Books
When it comes to great tablets for reading books or magazines, then it would be tough to name which tablet that can be a perfect choice given that most tablets from Apple iPads, Android tablets or Windows tablets all can be great for reading books or magazines.
So this answer will depend on your specific needs and budget.
I mean, if you’re looking for a great tablet for reading books or magazines at affordable price tags with the extra abilities for gaming, watching movies or browsing internet, then you’re options would be either Google Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HDX.
Both tablets would be your perfect choices for that matter. Besides, both tablets have a great amount collection of books and magazines on Google Play Store or Amazon App Store. So you’re definitely in great hands.
However, if you currently have big budget that you’re ready to spend on a single tablet, then you can pick up either iPad Air or iPad mini 2. Both Apple tablets have the same internal hardware, display, battery life, solid and elegant design and huge collection books or magazines across the iTunes, which will definitely look perfect on their Retina Displays.
But if you only want to buy a device solely for reading books only, then you can pick up Amazon e-Reader, which now is supported with touch display.
So you’ll be able to control the screen by only using the touch screen. And the best thing about this device is, this e-Reader is sooo freakin’ cheap. So there is no way you’re gonna make mistake when buying this device.
And given the huge collection of books and magazines across the Amazon store, then you’ll get plenty of contents that you can purchase right away at anytime whenever you want it on your tablet.
Great Media and Entertainment Tablets
Several factors that make a tablet great for watching movies or TV series are great HD display, huge and complete collection of movies and TV series, long lasting battery life, easy payment system and fast connectivity either with Wi-Fi and internet.
These are so important because if you buy a tablet that doesn’t have all of those aforementioned aspects above, then it’s gonna make it harder for you to enjoy your favorite movies or TV series on your tablet.
For example, let’s say, you buy a tablet that has powerful hardware, great display and long lasting battery life, which make that tablet great for watching movies, right?.
However, if that tablet doesn’t support easy payment system, or doesn’t have great connectivity, then it’s gonna be a pain in the ass whenever you want to get your favorite movies or TV series right on time.
Therefore, if you’re looking for a great tablet for watching movies, 2 great options for you are either Kindle Fire HDX, Google Nexus 7, iPad mini 2 or iPad Air.
They all have great displays, long lasting battery life, great supports for connectivity with Wi-Fi or LTE, complete movies and TV series collection (with the exception of Nexus 7 that must use Netflix or Hulu apps) and easy payment system with credit card.
However, if right now, you’re kind of tight in budget, you can aim your target at either Google Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HDX, which are affordable to buy.
But if you are in a great shape financially, you can snatch iPad Air or iPad mini 2 with Retina Display.
Simple Productivity Tablets for Simple Typing, Designing or Drawing
There are some great tablets that you can use for doing simple productivity tasks like writing articles or doing simple typing homework.
To name of few, there are Google Nexus 7, iPad Air or iPad mini 2, Samsung GALAXY Tab 2/3, Asus Transformer tablets and other tablets that have supports for separate 3rd party keyboard docks.
The final decision will all come down to your budget and needs.
If you only need for an affordable tablet for doing simple productivity tasks, then aim for Google Nexus 7 or Samsung GALAXY Tab 2/3, not to mention the separate keyboard dock.
But if you have big budget in your pocket, then you can spend it on iPad Air or iPad mini 2 plus the extra cost for the separate 3rd party keyboard dock.
Suitable Tablets for Kids or Teenager
Most of kids these days usually want to get the iPad, especially in this holiday season.
However, if you don’t want to spend that much money for just a single tablet for your little kid, then you can pick up other affordable tablets that also as powerful as the iPad.
Last year model of Google Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD can be great options for your kids.
These tablets currently are sold at really cheap price points for less than around $150 for each of them.
That’s a good deal for you as costumer. You’ll get a great and powerful tablet at low cost.
And if you want to get the other powerful tablet at even lower price tag than Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD, you can aim your target at Acer Iconia Tab A110.
Don’t underestimate this tablet though. Acer Iconia Tab A110 comes with the same processor and hardware specs just like the last year’s Google Nexus 7 (i.e., Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, etc).
And the best thing about this tablet compared to Google’s tablet is that Acer Iconia Tab A110 also comes with HDMI support and microSD card slot, which can’t be found on Nexus 7.
I believe right now, you can get this Acer tablet for just less than $100.
Well, that’s just a great deal, right? At that price point, you can get a powerful tablet at really low cost.
However, given that the price of this Acer tablet is cheaper than Nexus 7, then don’t expect this tablet to be as great as Nexus 7 in the whole aspect, like battery life, gaming performance, user interface and many more.
Great Professional Tablets for Doing Art or Design Projects
If right now, you’ve been working on your projects that have something to do with arts, drawing or painting, then you can’t just pick some random tablet without even thinking about your specific needs on that tablet.
There are not many tablets that are great for this type of users.
However, if you ask me, i would definitely recommend you the Samsung’s popular tablet called Samsung GALAXY Note 8.
What makes this tablet great for drawing arts or paintings is the S-Pen stylus that officially comes with this tablet.
Okay, i know, other tablets like Google Nexus 7 or iPad may also have the support from 3rd party stylus which can be used for that matter.
However, what makes Samsung GALAXY Note 8’s stylus so special than other 3rd party styluses out there are definitely the complete features that come out of the box on Note 8 tablet and its stylus.
With S-Pen stylus, not only will it allow you to draw paintings or writing directly on the screen, S-Pen stylus also have really rich features like capturing screen shot, moving elements with multi-window mode when chatting with your friends, saving web pages or internet contents in quick way, and many other more.
Therefore, if you’re still looking for a great tablet for doing your art projects or writing your book projects, then you’ll make no mistake if you buy Samsung GALAXY note 8.
It has an 8-inch HD screen, powerful hardware, big fat of RAM, great cameras, long lasting battery life and great support for its S-Pen stylus.
However, if you’re tight in budget, you can also pick up Tegra Note from NVIDIA that also comes with its official stylus to do some professional painting or writing projects.
Besides, by buying this tablet, not only it's really cheaper than Note 8, Tegra Note also has some great hardware specs, display, long lasting battery life and a great gaming capability.
So you’ll get plenty stuff by paying less. Tegra Note only costs around $199, compared to Samsung GALAXY Note 8 that is priced at around $400.
